Books and Happiness

I would like to explore Studio Culture in order to better understand how designers approach, process and solve design challenges.  The Studio becomes, for many designers, a home away from home, and the design peers, an extended family.  Studio focuses on collaborative learning, but relies heavily on individual motivation; multiple interpretations take place and intensity and emotional investment vary greatly among individuals.  I would like to examine the effectiveness of the studio culture to determine how it impacts the design process, as well as how it affects the physical and emotional well-being of students and professionals.

Formal instruction makes up roughly 8.5 hours per week in the architectural studio setting, but a student can spend an inordinate amount of additional time completing requirements.  Images will be collected from various times of day at multiple venues, in order to determine if this is culture permeates all fields of design, or if…
